The Work

“To be sure, a human being is a finite thing, and his freedom is restricted. It is not freedom from conditions, but it is freedom to take a stand toward the conditions.”

(Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl, translated by Ilse Lasch)

A collaboration between choreographer and dancer Naya Binghi and artist and illustrator Ayala Meidan brings together flamenco dance and a dynamic drawing performance executed in front of the audience. The two art forms are deconstructed and reassembled within this framework, expanding their familiar boundaries. The language of flamenco oscillates between the traditional and the contemporary, the classical and the personal, while drawing moves from the canvas to the stage, from the two-dimensionality of the painted image to the three-dimensionality of projection onto the dancing body.

This interdisciplinary encounter raises questions about the real and the imagined, as well as the degree of permanence in our perception of reality.

The Artists

Naya Binghi, born in 1996, is a contemporary dance artist who integrates the language of flamenco with personal and socio-political narratives. Her work explores borders, collective memory, and the rhythmic tension in the silence between the beats.

Naya participated in the 1|2|3 choreographic program at the Suzanne Dellal Center, where she was awarded “Outstanding Performer” in the duet stage and “Outstanding Choreographer” in the trio stage. She performed both in Israel and internationally as part of the program. She has been invited to residencies across Europe, including at Théâtre de la Ville and Chaillot – Théâtre National de la Danse in Paris, and was selected for the Fabrique Chaillot program for the 2025–2026 season.

Her works have been presented at festivals and theaters in Spain, France, Germany, India, Austria, and Italy. Alongside her independent choreographic work, Naya collaborates with artists from various disciplines, including her participation in Tzotzelet, a performance created in collaboration with Sigalit Landau and Shushan.

Ayala Meidan was born in 1996. She is an illustrator and multidisciplinary artist working across various mediums, drawing a line between the intimate and the political. Based in Tel Aviv, she holds a BA in Social Work from Tel Aviv University. She works as a freelance illustrator for children and adults with diverse bodies.

Together, through movement, body, line, and text, they seek to explore and reimagine their identities, the culture they were raised in, and the reality they share.
