Noe Soulier | The Kingdom of Shades – Signe Blanc
Cndc-Angers, France
Kingdom of the Shades is the most famous passage from La Bayadere Marius Petipa’s well-known ballet. Noe Soulier uses it as a basis to explore the poetic incongruity of dance and everyday movements in the company of Vincent Chaillet, former First Soloist at the Paris Opera Ballet. Continuing into Signe Blanc Soulier extended his experimental approach to look at ballet mime vocabulary and the often multiple and contradictory messages between what we see.
Billy Barry & Gianni Notarnicola | G.O.A.T.S – going on a trip, sis
The follow-up duet to B.O.A.T.S – based on a true story finds Billy and Gianni sent on a trip of deeper inspiration. This half-evening work unpacks what it means to trip, literally and figuratively. Within a friendship, how do two people trip into and away from each other, physically and emotionally? How do they prepare for a trip, a girls’ getaway? How do they navigate the euphoria of “tripping”? And what kind of trip will they take an audience on via this exploration? It’s a question of time and how time affects us all.
It’s Billy and Gianni’s daily trips, jokes, moments of laughing at themselves, and the silliness of life. Speaking with the same humor, they find an artistic flow through their ironic language and almost cynical approach toward old fashion standards. They find union in a dimension where reality has rainbow colors, and its essential value is the celebration of themselves.

As one who’s in an endless loop
In the past year, I have recognized myself falling into different kinds of patterns that come one after the other – a loop.
The ongoing chase after happiness, after money, after stability, after success, after attention, after love, after intimacy. Did we really achieve our goal, or is our goal the chase?
The rhythm of life as the rhythm of the Bolero’s Sisyphean melody – when one loop ends, are we already existing in another loop? Is it a conscious choice? Are we enjoying the feeling? What are we running away from? What are we chasing after? Are we afraid of the moment we exit the loop? What will happen if we do eventually exit it?
In this piece, we experience the repetitive music that feeds a loop with stubbornness and frustration, along with direct and intense physicality.
Special thanks go out to Ori Weiss for taking part in the process and development of the piece.
Noe Soulier is a French dancer and choreographer. His work explores choreography and dance through multiple settings, including the stage, the museum space, and theoretical reflection. Since 2020, he has led the Cndc-Angers (Centre national de danse contemporaine). This unique institution brings together a center for choreographic creation, a higher school of contemporary dance, and a dance season.
Vincent Chaillet, First Soloist at the Paris Opera Ballet, joined the Paris Opera Ballet School in 1995 before joining the Corps de Ballet de l’Opera National de Paris in 2002. As a First Soloist between 2009 and 2019, he performed the leading roles of the classical repertoire’s great ballets and distinguished himself by his interpretations of “character” roles.
Billy Barry (New York, U.S.A.) and Gianni Notarnicola (Puglia, Italy) premiered their debut work together in March 2022 and created many small works individually. They started their collaboration together in the Batsheva Dance Company. In 2023, they debuted solos in a shared evening. This is their second creation as co-choreographers.

His duet creation awarded him the “Outstanding Creator” prize. Under the framework of the program’s international tours, Tamir was chosen to participate with his works at the Holland Dance Festival (Den Hagg, Holland) and MILANoLTRE (Milan, Italy), and in the fall of 2023, he will create a new work for the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
