All I Need

Desperate rush towards self-fulfillment by trying to avoid total confrontation, All I Need (also, and above all) affirms the fundamental need of humanity, that of collective and reasoned listening.

Edouard Hue invents a complex and exciting strategic ballet. He immerses his nine female and male dancers in a structure reminiscent of the game Go, in which the conquest of territory only makes sense by finding a compromise of balance with the opponent. The participants, inspired by current political figures, are characterized by singular movements and carried away by the movement’s qualitativety quality of movement.

On the verge of breaking, their bodies overflow with drunken energy of power, vibrating with impatience, seething with anger. The density of space electrifies, and movement borders on implosion or suddenly relaxes in an elastic blast. In All I Need, Edouard Hue puts forward all his know-how to create an intense and virtuoso dance. Will our protagonists find a way out? Will chaos give way to a lull to rebuild harmony?

Edouard Hue experimented with the extremes, as a performer, with choreographers Hofesh Shechter, Damien Jalet, and Olivier Dubois. He quickly developed his own style of mastered virtuosity mixed with mischievous spontaneity. His appropriation of movement and charisma have honored him with the 2019 Swiss Dance Award “Exceptional Dancer.”

In 2014, Edouard Hue created the Beaver Dam Company, a Swiss-French company based in Geneva and Annecy. His repertoire, composed of solos, duets, and group pieces, offers artistic diversity, produced internationally and intended for children and the general public.

In 2021, he created his signature piece, All I Need, reflecting his body research’s choreographic singularity. The show premiered at the Festival de Danse de Cannes programming, representing a turning point in the choreographer’s career. 

Over the years, well-known companies commissioned pieces from Hue, like the part of Domine Jesu for Yoann Bourgeois’ Requiem (Grenoble-France), No Matter for Gauthier Dance Company (Stuttgart-Germany), Titan for Ballet Basel (Basel-Switzerland), and L’Oiseau de Feu in 2023 for the Opera du Grand Avignon.
