A child’s imagination can bring to life even simple everyday objects like a piece of paper. In our performance, a large paper roll sparks the young narrator’s imagination. While he examines the clean and malleable material, the paper displays stories. The narrator enters this paper world and meets a young boy who becomes his guide. Together, they set off on a voyage of discovery before quickly finding that tension and danger may also be lurking.
This non-verbal fairytale, with its minimalistic set design, engages the audience’s imagination. In the hands of an experienced puppeteer and mime, Radim Vizvary, paper is transformed onstage into fantastic scenes from a fairytale world. Children in the audience are invited through gestures to play a part.
Radim Vizvary is a prominent figure in European contemporary physical mime theatre. He is a mime artist, author, stage director, choreographer, and teacher. He teaches at the Music and Dance Faculty of Prague’s Academy of Performing Arts. He holds the role of artistic director for The Laterna Magika Ensemble, The Mime Prague Company, The International Mime Fest, and the international street festival in Tábor. Vizvary received numerous accolades in the Czech Republic, various European countries, and the USA, including the 2016 Thalia Prize.
