The Work

This work inhabits the intersection of circus, dance, and visual art. The artistic language of the piece is that of hard work, moments of rest, virtuosity, and teamwork. This is the second chapter in a trilogy of “labor shows” concerning the interactions between objects and the human body. The trilogy is a kind of requiem for the human body as we know it today. In this piece, Shioniri and Lieberman delve deeper into the interplay between the body and objects, they focus on physical work against obstacles, the body’s vulnerability, and the dangers and challenges that arise in encounters between body and object. Ultimately, this work symbolizes the individual’s existential journey – the inevitable clash between artistic creativity and the constraints of the physical realm.

The Artists

Dror Liberman, born in Be’er Sheva (1988), is a multidisciplinary performance artist, a graduate of the workshop for training dancers in Haifa and the “Kelim” body for choreographic work. Kazuyo Shionoiri, born in Tokyo (1984), has a master’s degree from the Academy of Dance and Physical Education in Tokyo. Shionoiri and Lieberman are a couple in life and on stage, creating together since 2015. Their works have been praised by critics and supported by many organizations, including the Rabinovitch Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Lottery Council for Culture and Art, Tel Aviv Municipality, and others, and have appeared in leading platforms such as “International Exposure,” “Tel Aviv Dance Festival,” “Intimdance,” “Machol Shalem” and many others. In recent years, the two have been invited to perform, create, and teach in Japan, Bulgaria, Albania, Norway, Germany, Croatia, Switzerland, Spain, The Czech Republic, and Poland, to name a few.
